On Monday, 19 August, a special public lecture series was held at the ENEOS Hall of the University of Tokyo’s Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology. This event marked the final session of the Tohoku Project 2024 Lecture Series, offering special content in an expanded format.
In the first part, Shuji Yumita, the representative Director of Ryumon Yaki Co., Ltd., a pottery kiln in Aizu Hongo Yaki, the only porcelain-producing region in Tohoku, along with Yoshimoto, took the stage to introduce the region and explain the project’s piece, “Rain.”
In the second part, Koichi Suga, Head of Lexus Design at Lexus International, the sponsor of this project, and Yoshinao Sugihara, the tenth-generation owner of Sugihara Shoten, a traditional Echizen washi wholesaler, were invited. Together, they discussed the installation “Beyond the Horizon,” which was exhibited at Milan Design Week 2024, from the perspective of “Craft x Tech.”
