Craft x Tech Special Lecture Series Vol. 4 “Nanbu Tekki x Michael Young”

2024.5.21

(Lecture)

Craft x Tech is a new initiative to develop innovative products & art pieces through collaborations between Japanese traditional crafts and international creators. The inaugural edition, 6 craft districts from Tohoku region – the Northeast part of Japan – will each be paired with one of the 6 participating creators, with the aim to identify innovative and novel approaches to creation using traditional Japanese crafts.

As part of this project, the participating creators and craftsmen are invited to hold a special lecture series. Our fourth lecture welcomed the world renowned industrial designer Michael Young, and Nambu Tekki ironware craftsman Kei Sato.
Regrettably, Michael Young was unable to join us due to unforeseen circumstances, but Kei Sato gave a presentation on the history and production process of Nambu Tekki, as well as his own challenging approach to craftsmanship. His talk captivated many attendees, filling the venue with a lively atmosphere.
